Head shot of Jessica Lam, MD, PhD in business attire, smiling at camera

Jessica grew up in Scarsdale, New York before moving to Southern California to study Biology at Caltech. As an undergraduate, she developed a passion for computational genomics while conducting research on genome assembly in the lab of Dr. Pui-Yan Kwok at UCSF. She then joined the MD-PhD program at the University of Pennsylvania with a continued interest in utilizing experimental genomics and bioinformatics tools to study gene regulation. As a graduate student in the lab of Gerd Blobel, she investigated general mechanisms through which transcription factors and 3D genome structure work together to maintain cellular identity. She is excited to continue her training with UCLA Neurology, with clinical interests in neurogenetics and neurodegeneration. Outside of work, Jessica enjoys playing pickleball, watching tennis and basketball, and hiking (including getting roped into hikes that are longer than advertised)!
