About Army SFC Michael Schlitz
SFC Michael Schlitz currently resides in the Midwest. While serving a tour in Southern Baghdad in 2007, Schlitz's truck ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) killing his medic, driver, and gunner. From the explosion, Schlitz suffered severe burns to the majority of his body, the loss of both of his arms, and vision impairment. He now uses prosthetic arms and has had numerous reconstructive facial surgeries to help repair the damage to his eyelids, mouth and nose.
The surgeries have helped Schlitz regain his confidence. He now lives a very active life spending quality time with his family and working with a variety of non-profit veteran service organizations focused on serving and supporting the veteran community.
