Interventional radiologists use minimally invasive techniques to treat many conditions that once required open surgery. This highly specialized practice uses tiny catheters and miniature instruments, allowing physicians to perform a variety of complex diagnostic and interventional procedures in the arteries, veins, and almost every organ in the body.

Interventional Radiology. UCLA Dept of Radiology.

Through these revolutionary techniques, patients can avoid surgery – and often reduce their risk and their recovery time. Interventional radiologists treat complicated conditions safely and effectively, leaving patients with only a small bandage to show for it.

Interventional radiologists are board-certified physicians with advanced training in diagnostic radiology, followed by additional training in vascular and interventional procedures. This comprehensive background in state-of-the-art imaging techniques allows them to quickly and accurately visualize, diagnose and treat appropriate conditions without the need for open surgery.
