Jordan Francke, MD, MPH, Participates in California Medical Association Legislative Advocacy Day

Jordan Francke, MD, MPH, at California Medical Association Legislation Day

April 19, 2023

CA-2 resident physician Jordan Francke, MD, MPH, traveled to Sacramento for California Medical Association's 9th annual Legislative Advocacy Day on April 19, 2023, as part of the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) Resident Advocacy Workshop. Throughout the day, Dr. Francke met with several California legislators on priority health care issues in anesthesiology. Dr. Francke was able to engage with influential figures in medical advocacy, including CSA President-Elect Antonio Hernandez Conte, MD, MBA, FASA, who led the meetings with the state assemblymen and senators.

Here is what Dr. Francke had to say about his experience: "I feel very fortunate for the opportunity to travel to our beautiful state's capital and meet with legislators about important policy issues facing our specialty. The California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA) sponsored one resident from each program around the state to attend this two-day event. The first day introduced us to the legislative process in California, key issues currently being considered that directly impact anesthesiologists and physicians within our state, and strategies to effectively advocate on behalf of our professional peers. We spent the second day on Capitol Hill meeting with the offices of state assemblymembers and senators to discuss our concerns. One highlight (of many) of this experience was speaking with Dr. Joaquin Arambula, the first Latino physician elected to the California State Assembly (and one of only three physicians currently in the California State Legislature) and an alumnus of my alma mater, Bowdoin College. While residency keeps me busy, this experience has shown me both the power and importance of advocacy within medicine. Thank you to CSA for sponsoring my participation at this wonderful event, and to UCLA DAPM for supporting physician advocacy!"

Thank you to Dr. Francke for his tireless efforts in advocating on behalf of resident and attending anesthesiologists!
