2nd Annual JEDI Committee Retreat
Written by Olivia Vallejo
DAPM JEDI Committee held its 2nd Annual Retreat in early June at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica. The retreat began with a presentation on the Restorative Justice in Academic Medicine (RJAM) Roll-Out at the David Geffen School of Medicine (DGSOM), led by Olivia Vallejo, a member of the DGSOM RJAM Steering Committee. Following the presentation, the group engaged in a Community Building Circle, setting the stage for a highly productive retreat!
Pride Month
June is Pride Month – a time to celebrate and uplift our LGBTQIA+ community, to rejoice in the strides of progress and to recognize our faculty, staff, students and trainees at UCLA Health for our teamwork on this journey to achieve acceptance and inclusivity. Recognized annually to commemorate the 1969 Stonewall Uprising – six days of protests and clashes with law enforcement in New York City that changed the course of LGBTQ activism – Pride Month demonstrates the ongoing fight for equality, justice and inclusion.

Juneteenth- Freedom Day
Juneteenth is a day of profound historical significance and we take this moment to honor the end of slavery in the United States and reflect on the journey toward freedom and justice. Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, commemorates the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, in 1865—two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. This holiday is an opportunity to reflect on concepts such as freedom, progress and possibility, and advocate for equitable and just action.
