Dr. Karlan completed her medical degree at Harvard Medical School, residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Yale-New Haven Hospital and a gynecologic oncology fellowship at UCLA School of Medicine. She is a board-certified gynecologic cancer surgeon. Dr. Karlan’s clinical practice and research intersect to focus on cutting edge treatments for ovarian and other women’s cancers, as well as early detection and inherited cancer susceptibility. She is an American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professor and is editor-in-chief of the scientific journals Gynecologic Oncologyand Gynecologic Oncology Reports. In 2012, Dr. Karlan was appointed by the White House to serve on the National Cancer Advisory Board and in 2015 she was elected to membership in the National Academy of Medicine.

She completed her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology and fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. Her clinical interests include infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, fertility preservation, and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Dr. Quinn’s research interests include optimizing pregnancy outcomes subsequent to assisted reproduction, the role of the reproductive laboratory in improving in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes, and the long-term safety of IVF and related treatments.

Dr. Rapkin has authored over a 120 articles, chapters, and books and received numerous grants to study chronic pelvic and vulvar pain, as well as hormonally associated mood disorders. She initiated one of the first multidisciplinary pelvic pain programs offering comprehensive and innovative care and access to current research studies for women suffering from complex disorders. Current NIH funding has allowed Dr. Rapkin to study structure and function of the brain, vaginal microbiome, genetics and inflammatory profiles in women with vulvodynia.

Professor in Residence of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Medicine in the Division of Hematology-Oncology. Dr. Konecny is the lead clinician for gynecologic oncology in the Department of Medicine at UCLA. He obtained his medical degree and completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Munich in Germany. Following his specialist training he focused on clinical breast cancer research and moved to the U.S. to pursue postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of Dennis J. Slamon to participate in laboratory and clinical research that led to the approval of new breast cancer drugs such as trastuzumab and lapatinib. He subsequently undertook research and subspecialty training in gynecologic oncology by completing a gynecologic oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota. In 2007 he was recruited back to the University of California as a group leader to the Translational Oncology Research Laboratory of UCLA, to establish a laboratory for preclinical drug and clinical trial development in the area of gynecologic malignancies.

Prior to coming to UCLA, Dr. Nitti was Professor of Urology and Obstetrics and Gynecology and Vice Chairman of Urology at New York University Langone Medical Center where he was also the FPMRS fellowship director. He is an authority in urodynamic techniques, medical and surgical therapies for urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, female pelvic reconstructive surgery and voiding dysfunction.

Dr. Saitta earned her BA in Biology from Johns Hopkins University and completed both her M.D. as well as her Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology from Thomas Jefferson University. She completed her Pediatrics internship and residency at the St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children/Temple University, followed by a fellowship in Medical Genetics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. During her fellowship training at Penn, she had the opportunity to work on the Human Genome Project, contributing to the sequencing of chromosome 22q, which was the first chromosome "completed" for the project.

Assistant Professor-In-Residence of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Epeldegui completed her undergraduate degree at the Universitdad Complutense de Madrid, Spain. She received her MS from Universidad Complutense de Madrid and her PhD from University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Epeldegui’s primary research efforts focus on immunology and AIDS-non-Hodgkin lymphoma. She is funded by several research grants from the National Cancer Institute.

Sandra Orsulic, PhD

Professor-In-Residence of UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Orsulic received her undergraduate degree from the University of Zagreb in Croatia and her PhD from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her postdoctoral training included a fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institute for Immunobiologie and a fellowship at both the National Institute of Health and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Orsulic was an Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Harvard Medical School from 2002-2008. Later in 2008, she assumed a position as Associate Professor in UCLA OBGYN and had a laboratory at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center studying the molecular basis of ovarian cancer using both animal and cell based models of disease. In 2020, she moved her lab to the UCLA campus where she continues her innovative work in the area of cancer associated fibroblasts and molecular signatures of disease. Dr. Orsulic is funded by the National Institute of Health, the Department of Defense, and the Veterans Administration.
