Hazardous Materials

We have hazardous materials present throughout the health system, from radiation producing machines to chemicals and hazardous pharmaceuticals. It is our goal to reduce the risks associated with having hazardous materials in the work environment.

The Hazardous Materials and Waste program spans the following topics:

  • Biological Safety: how to protect oneself from biological hazards in the workplace
  • Chemical Safety: what controls should be in place when working with chemicals
  • Medical Waste Management: how to dispose of each type of waste appropriately
  • Laboratory Safety: how to work safely in the lab
  • Personal Protective Equipment: what to wear to protect oneself from biological or chemical hazards
  • Safety Data Sheets: how to access safety information about chemicals
  • Fume Hood Certifications: how to have a fume hood certified
